Calenix vs GlossGenius: Which Booking Platform Is Better for Beauty Professionals?

GlossGenius is a full beauty and medspa platform, but only for US businesses. Calenix offers booking, deposits and a professional presence for beauty pros elsewhere. We compare what each includes.

GlossGenius is a dedicated platform for beauty and medspa businesses, with booking, point of sale, deposits, no-show policies, packages, memberships and marketing built in. However, its Terms of Service limit use to businesses operating in the United States, so salons, stylists and therapists in Australia or the UK are not eligible to use it under those terms.

For US beauty professionals who run a chair or studio, GlossGenius is the more specialised option. For beauty and wellness professionals elsewhere, or anyone whose work is more consultation-led, Calenix offers booking, Stripe deposits and a professional presence, though without salon point-of-sale tools.

Availability comes first

Before comparing features, check whether you can use the product at all. GlossGenius's Terms of Service, last updated in October 2026, say the services may only be used for business purposes in the fifty US states, its territories and the District of Columbia. Account holders must be US legal residents, US citizens or businesses authorised in the states where they operate.

That means a Melbourne lash artist or a Manchester nail technician should treat GlossGenius as a reference point rather than an option. It is still useful to know what a beauty-specific system includes, because it shows which features to look for in tools that are available where you work.

Based on each vendor's official pages at the time of writing (October 2026):

What each tool is built for

GlossGenius offers two product lines. Its Beauty & Wellness plans cover a booking website, built-in deposits, cancellation and no-show policies, card on file, synced staff calendars, point of sale, packages and memberships, and email and text marketing. Its Medspa plans are aimed at aesthetic practices.

Calenix is a scheduling and professional presence platform. It provides booking pages with event types, buffers and custom questions, Stripe paid bookings and deposits from its Individual plan, email reminders and workflows, and service pages that explain each treatment. It also includes digital business cards, a LinkDock link page and email signatures.

What a beauty-specific platform adds

Salons and studios have needs that general schedulers often leave out. Clients pay at the end of a visit, buy aftercare products and come back on a regular cycle. Staff need commissions tracked. A late cancellation costs real money because the chair sits empty.

GlossGenius addresses those directly. Every plan includes point of sale, card on file and no-show policies. The Gold plan adds Google booking and reviews, a waitlist, forms and waivers, time tracking, and room and resource management, while Platinum adds customisable commissions. Payroll and a reception service are paid add-ons.

Calenix does not currently list point of sale, product sales, commissions or a waitlist. If those are central to your business, look for a beauty or salon platform that operates in your country. Our guide to booking software for barbers and salons covers what to check.

When a lighter tool is enough

Not every beauty professional runs a full salon. Plenty work alone, travel to clients or offer consultation-led services such as bridal hair trials, skin consultations or colour analysis. For them, the essentials are a clear booking page, a deposit to protect their time, reminders and an easy way to share their details.

Say a Gold Coast bridal hair stylist offers trials, wedding-day packages and travel to venues. With Calenix, they could publish a service page for each package with its price and details, take a Stripe deposit when a trial is booked, and send reminders by email. At expos and venue meetings, a digital business card with a QR code leads straight to their booking page, and a booking link in their email signature handles enquiries. Our guide to adding a booking link to a digital business card shows how to set that up.

That setup is lighter than a full salon system, and its subscription is typically lower. The trade-off is that payment on the day, product sales and memberships would be handled elsewhere.

Calenix or GlossGenius: which should you choose?

Where GlossGenius is the stronger choice

For US-based salons, spas, barbers and medspas, GlossGenius is the more complete tool. Point of sale, deposits, no-show policies, packages, memberships, marketing and, on higher plans, commissions and room management are built for exactly that kind of business.

Where Calenix is the stronger choice

Calenix is a practical option for beauty and wellness professionals who cannot use GlossGenius, and for consultation-led or mobile practitioners anywhere who want booking, Stripe deposits, service pages, digital cards and email signatures without a salon system. It has a free plan to start, but it does not currently list point of sale, memberships or SMS reminders.
